Cholesterol travels through the blood on proteins called “lipoproteins.” Two types of lipoproteins carry cholesterol throughout the body:
LDL (low-density lipoprotein), sometimes called “bad” cholesterol, makes up most of your body’s cholesterol. High levels of LDL cholesterol raise your risk for heart disease and stroke.
HDL (high-density lipoprotein), or “good” cholesterol, absorbs cholesterol and carries it back to the liver. The liver then flushes it from the body. High levels of HDL cholesterol can lower your risk for heart disease and stroke.
Cold wood pressed oils contain good quantities of HDL cholesterol and when consumed, it helps to lower LDL cholesterol.
a. Extraction method
Cold pressed coconut oil is extracted from copra or dried coconut kernel, usually after drying coconuts in the sun.
However virgin coconut oil is extracted from the fresh coconut milk and left to settle down.
b. Appearance and composition
Both cold-pressed and virgin coconut oils look similar and have the same energy content. A tablespoon of any coconut oil contains 117 calories and 13.6g of fat where 11.8grams are saturated fats.
Most of the coconut oil fats are medium-chain triglycerides your body uses as energy, but don’t increase the risks of cardiovascular disease.
c. Health benefits
Virgin coconut oil is always healthier than cold pressed coconut oil. It’s because, like in any other food processing methods, the heat used to dry copra can reduce the antioxidant content in cold pressed coconut oils. It means virgin coconut oil contains more antioxidants and essential vitamins than cold-pressed oil.
d. Taste and aroma
Virgin coconut oil has a delicious, tropical coconut aroma and flavour while cold pressed coconut oil has a neutral scent and flavour.

The oil seeds are husked, cleaned, and crushed once the seed plants have been harvested. The oil extraction procedure is started by heating and steaming the crushed seeds. High heat and friction are also applied using a mechanical press to separate the oil from the seed pulp. The resulting seed pulp and oil are steamed again to extract additional oil before being cleaned in a hexane solvent bath. The seed/oil combination is now centrifuged, and phosphate is added to start separating the oil from the remaining seed. The crude oil is separated following solvent and centrifuge extraction, and the solvent is then expelled and recovered.
There is a very tiny difference, the bull is replaced by an electric motor to suit compact spaces, and otherwise the pestle which is made from a special wood and the mortar which is made from stone are same.
The wood used as a pestle is carved out from a tree called as “albizia lebbeck” in English and “Baage Mara” in Kannada. In Ayurveda it is used to prepare various medicines. It is a non-toxic tree. This tree contains alkaloids, tannins, saponins and flavonoids which has medicinal action.

What’s more, the oil makes an excellent moisturizer for both the skin and hair, and it may even help prevent stretch marks and protect your skin from sun damage.
Cold wood pressed almond oil retains more nutrients than refined almond oil and is better for culinary uses. Just make sure you don’t hear it, as doing so will destroy some of its nutrients.
No matter how you choose to use this interesting oil, it makes an excellent addition to both your pantry and vanity.
